Now that it's 2010, I can continue my "Artists I Did Not Discover" series, except this time obviously set in 2009, not 2008!

With all of the English songstresses that I have been listening to non-stop over the past year or so (see: Florence, Marina, Boots, Ellie, etc.), I'm very glad to finally be representing my own country but putting up some music by a homegrown talent, Lissie.

While Lissie's music doesn't fall in the same pop-friendly category that the aforementioned UK girls did, her voice is just as strong as theirs, sounding quite a bit like Neko Case (which is good, because I like Neko Case although I may not write about her much... or ever). Her debut EP Why You Runnin' came out last November and I. Had. Absolutely. No. Idea. until just a few days ago. Color me stupid.

If you had to make a list of some of the most innovative and unique electronic artists currently out there, there really is only a few names you can put on there, and on my list would definitely have to be Four Tet, somewhere near the top. I've been a fan of his for a long time, especially with his contribution to the DJ Kicks series being one of my favorites of the bunch.

Thankfully for me and those like me, his new album There Is Love In You is released next week, January 25th, and you can stream the entire thing on his website for free. To say it's pretty effing awesome is an understatement.

Also, although I'm sure you probably already have this, the Joy Orbison remix of the first single "Love Cry" is awesome vibes. Get at it below and then remember to STREAM THE ALBUM. Highly approved, both the remix and the album.

Odd side project of an already-known act? Most likely. Cryptic myspace with no information, no pictures of band members, and no friends? Check. Feathers, from San Francisco and New Orleans, seem to have all of the correct "blog hype" prequisites set. Now all they need are at least one to two strong songs (check!) and some blogs to start talking about them, and they should be set for at least the next couple of months!

In terms of hype bands though, I suppose you could classify Feathers under the chillwave, 80s-synth, moderately lo-fi categories, if you want. The songs haven't really stood out to me as absolutely amazing but for initial demos, they're incredibly strong, and a good sign of things to come. Keep an eye/ear out for this.

I wrote about him a couple months ago and am still just as obsessed with his output as I was before. This mix is only available for another 2 1/2 weeks, so get it while you can.
