The Monday night residency slot at Spaceland is something of a tradition around LA now, I feel. So many bands have done it (The Rentals, The Mae Shi, Oliver Future, a million other bands) but it's something that always draws a crowd (free shows tend to do that) and is fun for bands to play. It's definitely something that is highly coveted among LA bands and this month, the band that takes the spotlight is Softlightes, on Modular Records. I originally had been a fan of The Incredible Moses Leroy, the alter ego of Ron Fountenberry, who then stopped putting out music under that name and became the singer for Softlightes. The band released an album earlier this year full of indie pop goodness and considering that all of their shows at Spaceland this month will be FREE, you have no reason not to go to at least one of them. The band goes on at 11 pm each Monday.
Make sure to listen to at least "Heart Made of Sound," I am in love with this song.
