Back in the day, one of the biggest bands in my little miniverse was without a doubt The Get Up Kids, the Midwestern band that many have credited with being one of the leaders of the emo "revival" or so in the late '90s/early '00s. Singer Matt Pryor started his acoustic side project The New Amsterdams at the beginning of this decade, even though The Get Up Kids continued on as a band until mid-2005. While I never quite enjoyed The New Amsterdams as much as I used to adore The Get Up Kids as a teenager, the band are releasing a free EP this week that I just had to post about.
The band is releasing the EP, four demos from an upcoming full-length, through absolutepunk.net, another music website that I help run which focuses on the more rock/"emo-ish" side of music (yes, now you all know my secret). You can listen to/grab all four songs below - remember, these are rough mixes, not the final songs. But still, enjoy free and legal music while you can. You can read notes by Matt Pryor on all of the songs on their AbsolutePunk profile.
The New Amsterdams - Fountain of Youth
The New Amsterdams - A Beacon in Beige
The New Amsterdams - This Day is Done (Rough Mix)
The New Amsterdams - Wait (Acoustic Demo)
