So yesterday, someone sends me this article from the Omaha City Weekly and tells me to read the whole thing. I'm reading the whole thing and it's an okay article, about the lead singer of Semisonic (the only song I know is "Closing Time") which is only mildly interesting, and then suddenly... WHAM. What does the last sentence say?
Beginning in the new year, [Conor] Oberst is slated to begin recording two new albums — one a solo record in Mexico (?) with Jake Bellows playing a role and another with a new band being formed with M Ward.
Now I get why my friend sent me the article. First off, for those of you wondering, the last bit of the article starts talking about Omaha musicians in general, not just Semisonic guy, so that's why Conor/Bright Eyes was randomly mentioned. Secondly, considering how much I love M. Ward, a potential musical union between Matt and Conor seems like it could be the tour de force for pop-ish folk music everywhere. A sample of what it could be possibly be like is below (Conor, Matt and Jim James of My Morning Jacket covering Bob Dylan).
Also, on another note, Conor is playing a few shows this December in Minnesota under his own name, not Bright Eyes, and won't be playing Bright Eyes songs. Instead, he'll be playing new material with a different backing band, and everyone has been told that these are one-time-only shows, not the beginning of any kind of tour. Those of you HSB readers in Minneapolis, if any of you guys go to 400 Bar on December 29th or 30th, let me know what it's like!
