With a lot of bands, you hear about them and then you forget them the next moment; somebody mentions their name a few months later and you say "Oh yeah that sounds really familiar, I think I checked them out a while ago." With a band like Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, there's no way in hell that you will forget about them really, with a name like that. Besides their rather unorthodox name though, the shocking thing is that their music actually really isn't that bad. In fact, it's...good. A lot of bands nowadays are doing the synth/electro/happy-go-lucky indie rock music nowadays, but NPSH (as I will call them now) actually pull it off.
Their album, Glistening Pleasure, is way more fun to listen to than I would have ever thought. A friend of mine at KXLU passed along their CD and at first I was like "Oh great, another one of THESE bands..." - bright flourescent colors, "ironic" clothes, an '80s vibe, and just about everything else you would normally grow to hate in the American-Apparel-clad hipster band movement. But once I actually listened to the CD, I discovered that I actually was starting to like it. Either I am succumbing to the masses (one of my roommates does work at American Apparel) or this is one of the few bands out of that movement that actually deserves more than one listen.
