This isn't a comprehensive list of what I really have liked so far, but this is what I've been spinning a lot (in no particular order). I realized, after I typed the rest of this post, that almost everyone has female vocals...maybe my taste in music is not as diverse as I had thought.
Bat for Lashes - Two Suns
The sophomore album from Bat for Lashes is exactly what you would want and expect from a second BFL album: more "mature" (whatever the hell that may mean), smooth vocals, hypnotic and somehow attention-grabbing without resorting to gimmicks.
Fever Ray - Fever Ray
After hearing this album, it's clear who in The Knife was the one who wrote the songs. Olof had amazing ability with beats and electronics, but Karin shines through on her solo effort with brilliantly haunting songs.
Telepathe - Dance Mother
Technically this isn't out until April 14th, but what's a couple of weeks? I'll do another post about this then, but until then, this may be one of the most "relevant" albums to come out in a long time (using HRO terminology). It's unique, varied, and startlingly catchy at times when you wouldn't think an act like this would be.
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
This one is fairly obvious. I may be falling into line with this one but I won't let my self-awareness get ahead of the fact that this is still an amazing album, hype or no hype.
Animal Collective - Brothersport
Marissa Nadler - Little Hells
Oh look, another album by a solo female vocalist with a beautiful and haunting voice - imagine that! You can drown out the world's problems with this one, if you listen hard enough.
Röyksopp - Junior
An electronica album with variety and a real spirit in it. Bits of it sound like The Knife for me, so maybe that's why I love it so much.
Salem - Water EP
Ok this one isn't a full-length album but I'll put it on here anyway. Think of it like Telepathe with a chopped-and-screwed flavor, and less pop vibes.
