The synth has come back in full force in popularity as of late in the "indie" world (see: Little Boots, La Roux, thecocknbullkid, etc. I use indie in quotation marks because all three of those are on major labels), but the common thread you are probably sensing with the aforementioned examples is that all of them are from across the pond, in the UK. What about America? Telepathe use plenty of synths and I consider them a sort of futuristic pop, but you can't really say they are POP in the traditional sense. There's some coming out of NYC, but us here in LA are left waiting to see what pops out of our scene, and one possible act to rise up out of our fair city is Love Grenades.
Produced by the same producer as Sam Sparro, Love Grenades makes indie pop with a slightly more retro flair than their musical peers. It's fitting that last time I saw them play was opening for Little Boots at Spaceland. Is "fierce" still a cool term to use to describe a frontwoman? If so, let's use it. She was fierce.
