Well, I've been posting about Florence and the Machine since SXSW last year, ever since HSB's sister label IAMSOUND Records put out her debut single in the States, so it would be almost criminal to not write something about her now that her debut album is finally here (kind of). The full-length, titled Lungs, is out in the UK today, but unfortunately Americans must wait until October 20th to get a physical copy in their hands. It's out digitally in America, but all the buzz you'll be hearing about over the next few weeks will be all about the UK.
It's, to be honest, one of the most brilliant debut albums to come out in quite some time. I keep on describing it as "epic Kate Bush" to anyone who will hear me, and not sure how Flo actually feels about being called that, but it's fitting to me. Lots of handclaps, epic drumming, some overdubbed vocals in a chorus here or there perfectly timed to make the hair on the arms stand up, etc., all combining to make you feel like you're listening to some kind of fantasy soundtrack that refuses to let go.
Anyway, this is a seal of approval from me. Go get this.
