As I say in the post below this one, these damned rockers-turned-DJs seem to have a gift, and Ocelot are no exception to this latest wave. Cory Kilduff, one half of Ocelot, used to be in hardcore act The Rise, signed to (get ready for more animal names) Ferret Records. The electronic bits of The Rise that helped to separate it from the rest of the hardcore acts a few years back were a hint at what would happen in the future, as Cory got together with James Welsh from England and the two combined to create Ocelot. These guys just signed to iheartcomix recently and made their LA debut at Franki Chan's Check Yo Ponytail this past Saturday, where they totally brought the funk. Get excited for the debut full-length out next year.
Ocelot - Lo Sforzo (The Stress)
Young Love - Discotech (Ocelot Remix)
Matt & Kim - Yea Yeah (Ocelot Remix)

Any band could try and call themselves creative and unique by using lots of various instruments, but Chicago's Nurses actually pull it off well and make themselves sound unique enough that they deserve far more attention than they're currently getting (i.e. barely any). The music itself is some sort of standard "indie rock" anchored by solid vocals that are reminiscent of portugal. the man/softer Blood Brothers and, of course, accented by the various instruments they use. They self-released Hangin' Nothin' But Our Hands Down earlier this year - purchase it here.
